Prescott’s Riley Lewis started out hot at ASU Karsten Golf Course with four birdies on the first six holes of the tournament to open up a four-stroke lead after the first round with a 7-under-par 64, the low round of the tournament.

Scottsdale, Arizona’s Preston Summerhays, 15 – fresh from becoming the youngest champion of the Utah State Amateur in tournament history one month ago – fired 65-60 to qualify with ease for the U.S. Amateur to be contested August 13-19 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California.

Ashley Menne of Surprise, Elizabeth Caldarelli, Kelly Su, and Bailee Tayles, all of Scottsdale, are set to compete in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship this week July 16-21 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California.  

The 2018 IMG Academy Junior World Championship was held July 9-13 in San Diego. Preston Summerhays of Scottsdale posted the best score in the Boy’s 15-18 division among Arizona participants on Torrey Pines South Course with a third-place finish at 2-under-par 286 (74-72-70-70), a mere two strokes off the pace. Ben Lorenz of Peoria ended up five strokes back at 1-over-par 289 to earn a T10 finish.

A big thank you goes out to the crew of Breaking Par for featuring the JGAA during the Arizona State Junior Golf Championship held in mid-June at Talking Rock Golf Club in Prescott.

The Phoenix City Junior Championship teed off July 5-6 at Aguila Golf Course with Kobe Valociek (69-73) of Peoria edging out Ryan Plodkowski (71-71) of San Diego in a playoff for the win in the Boys Championship Division.

The first local qualifier for the IMG Academy Junior World Championship to be held July 9-13 in San Diego, the IMG Academy Junior World Qualifier contested June 21-22 at Raven Golf Club ended with two players tied for first place in the Boys Championship Division.

Hayden Sayre of Phoenix and Ashley Menne of Surprise took home top honors at the Willie Low Invitational Presented by MJ Insurance, a JGAA Junior Masters Series tournament contested June 25-26 at Phoenix Country Club.

Caden Christopherson of Chandler fired a final-round, 6-under-par 66 – including a clutch birdie on the last hole – at Talking Rock Golf Club to capture first place at 7-under-par 137 (71-66), one stroke ahead of Chandler’s Mahanth Chirravuri who finished in second place at 6-under-par 138 (71-67).
