Are there scoring requirements?
We require our players to be course ready before they participate in our events. This includes being able to walk the course by themselves and play with no help from parents or spectators*, know basic course maintenance (i.e how to rake bunkers, fixing divots etc), have a general understanding of the rules of golf, and be able to meet the scoring requirements below:
- Ages 13-18: 115 or better on an 18-hole, par 72 course.
- Ages 8-12: +20 over par or better on a 9-hole course.
Players who do not meet this criteria are kindly asked to continue developing their game before playing in our events.
*The 8-10 division is allowed a caddie while they play.
How many holes does each division play?
The 13-14, 15-18 and Championship Divisions will always play 18-holes each day of the event. Most events are 2-days (36-holes total). The 8-10 and 11-12 divisions will generally play 9-holes each day of the event. Check under the “Tournament Information” tab under each specific tournament to see what days/how many holes they will be playing.
Can I play up a division?
Special requests to move up a division before turning that age can be made by emailing mckenzie@jgaa.org. In order to move up a division before turning that age, you must consistently shoot around even par or better and demonstrate proper golf course etiquette/on-course maturity during competition. Once you play in an event in a higher division, you will not be able to move back down. Player of the year points will not transfer to the new division with you (they will stay in the division that you earned them in).
