The Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) announced today that it will host the ITTY BITTY OPEN on January 12, 2019 at 20 Valley-wide locations open to all youngsters ages 3-5 years old.
The Winter Classic teed off December 1-2 with a field featuring nearly 150 junior golfers from across the Valley – boys and girls ages 8-18 – competing in five age groups.
The Thunderbirds – hosts of the Waste Management Phoenix Open – announced a $150,000 grant to the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA). The funds will be used for the JGAA’s Financial Aid program to assists its members with participation fees – no juniors are turned away due to a lack of resources.
The JGAA Fall Classic teed off November 3-4 with Mahanth Chirravuri of Chandler posting 63-69 to take top honors in the Boys Championship division at 10-under-par 132 at Lone Tree Golf Club. Chirravuri started out hot with an 8-under-par effort featuring seven birdies, one eagle and one bogey to lead by four strokes after the first round.
The inaugural Show Low Classic teed off at Silver Creek Golf Club October 13-14 with Johnnie Clark of Mesa (72-80) and Gabriel Escalera (79-73) of Sahuarita finishing regulation play tied for first place at 10-over-par 152. Escalera rallied on the final nine holes with seven pars and two birdies at Nos. 16 and 18 to overcome Clark’s seven-stroke, first-round lead forcing a playoff. Clark prevailed in extra holes.
