The 40th annual Desert Mashie Championship teed off at Encanto Golf Course August 8-9. In the Boys Championship division, Alex Lynch of Scottsdale started hot with a six-under 29 on his first nine holes of the tournament en route to the first-round lead at six-under 64, one shot ahead of Anawin Pikulthong of Chandler.

Arizona high school golf made headlines at the 2020 High School Golf National Invitational, held August 3-5 at Pinehurst, and nobody was cheering louder than The Thunderbirds – hosts of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Each year since 2005, Pinehurst and the surrounding community play host to hundreds of junior golfers from across the globe:  more than 1,500 players from more than 50 countries.

George Rubelsky of Phoenix fired 3-under-par 141 to win the Boys Championship division at the Maricopa Junior Championship, held July 30-31 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. After a first-round, 3-over-par 75, Rubelsky started the final round six strokes off the pace set by defending champion, Alan Quezada, of Phoenix.

Grace Summerhays made history as the youngest Utah State Women’s Amateur champion after coming out on top at the 114th tournament held July 13-16 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
“This means a lot; I hadn’t won yet, and my dad told me this was going to be my last year to be the youngest,” Summerhays said. “I was super excited and just glad that my game was there this week.”

Mahanth Chirravuri posted an astounding 14-under-par 130 made up of a pair of 65s to overwhelm the field in the Boys Championship division at the IHOP Classic, held July 21-22 at Kierland Golf Club (Ironwood-Acacia rotation). Chirravuri got the lead early and never looked back.
