The Chandler City Junior Championship, played September 12-13 at Whirlwind Golf Course, started out in the Boys Championship division with an incredible first-round, bogey-free, 11-under-par 61 by eventual champion, Max Lyons.
August was a good month for a few past and present JGAA members. JGAA alum and senior at Grand Canyon University, Jake Chanen won the 96th Arizona Amateur Championship held at Desert Forest Golf Club.
Congratulations to Gavin Aurilia on his first AJGA win. And he did it in style, piling up 14 birdies and three eagles en route to a 12-stroke rout at the AJGA Junior Pronghorn, held August 11-14 at Pronghorn Resort in Bend, Oregon.
Anawin Pikulthong of Chandler shot 5-under-par 66 to sit on top of the round-one leaderboard at the DLB Custom Homes Scottsdale City Junior Championship, held August 15-16 at TPC Scottsdale. With three wins this season and a couple recent second-place finishes, Pikulthong put up another 66 on the Stadium Course the next day to earn second place at 10-under-par 132.

The 40th annual Desert Mashie Championship teed off at Encanto Golf Course August 8-9. In the Boys Championship division, Alex Lynch of Scottsdale started hot with a six-under 29 on his first nine holes of the tournament en route to the first-round lead at six-under 64, one shot ahead of Anawin Pikulthong of Chandler.
