Mason Andersen joins the winner’s circle for the first time on the Korn Ferry Tour. Mason Andersen defeated two-time winner Kris Ventura on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at the 117th Visa Argentina Open presented by Macro. The former ASU Sun Devil put on a clinic in the final round after firing off a seven-under-par 63. Through the Visa Argentina Open’s partnership with The R&A, Andersen’s victory also earned him an exemption for the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Last weekend, on February 24-25, the Phoenix Metro Junior Championship, proudly supported by Van’s Golf Shops, took center stage, welcoming a formidable lineup of Arizona’s finest young golfers. From talented boys to skilled girls, aged 8-18, the competition unfolded across five distinct age divisions, promising an exhilarating display of skill and determination.
College Golf Advisors and owner Rich Brazeau of the College Golf Guide is one of 5 AJGA College Golf Advisors and they have a new partnership with the JGAA. Upcoming is the first educational opportunity for the members of the JGAA.
Ashley Menne, an alumna of JGAA and standout of the Sun Devil Women’s Golf team, has been invited back to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. This marks her third straight appearance in the prestigious event as a senior at Arizona State University. In her debut in 2022, she made it to the final round, securing a 29th place finish.
Arizona’s best junior golfers – 30 girls and 54 boys – gathered at Longbow Golf Club February 17-18 to compete in the 2024 Fisher-Bryan Invitational, the second prestigious PING Junior Masters Series event of the JGAA season.
The 2024 New Year Classic kicked off January 27-28 with junior golfers ages 8-18 from across the Valley competing in five age groups at Raven Golf Club, Arizona Biltmore Golf Club and Ken McDonald. With nearly 70 junior golfers competing in the Boys Championship division at Raven Golf Club, it was one of the biggest turnouts in tournament history.
Coming off his best finish since The Open Championship in 2017, JGAA alum Chan Kim is making his third PGA TOUR start this season at the Farmers Insurance Open. The former Sun Devil had an exceptional outing in the desert at The American Express where he placed T-14.
The 2024 JGAA season is officially underway. The first tournament to kick things off was a PING Junior Masters Series tournament founded and hosted by Valley golf instructor Warren Schutte. The annual Warren Schutte Invitational, held January 20-21 at Wigwam Golf Resort, invited the top players in the state to all compete. The former Curry Cup champion Ashley Shaw of Litchfield Park won in the Girl’s Championship division.
