The 30th annual Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic took full swing April 6-7 under beautiful sunshine at Silverbell and El Rio Golf Courses, where Gilbert resident Austin Bullard recorded a final round to remember to win the Boys Championship division.

Starting the final round tied atop the leaderboard with Ben Carr of Gilbert, Bullard shot lights out and caught fire as he secured seven birdies to shoot 5-under 65 on Silverbell, his lowest score of the season by four strokes. Bullard finished the tournament at 6-under-par 134 and won by a commanding five shots ahead of Logan Mills of California and Ben Barrett of Washington who each tied for second place at 1-under par. This is Bullard’s first victory of the season in four events.

In the Girls Championship division, Angela Zhikun Chen of Chandler fired a first round 69 at Silverbell to remain near the top of the leaderboard with Eleanor Warden of New Mexico. Chen repeated her first-round success and stayed composed by shooting 71 the next day to pull away from the rest of the field. She would end up at even par for the event to clinch the Girls Championship division by four strokes. Claire Chang of Scottsdale finished solo-second at 4-over par and Eleanor Warden of New Mexico concluded at 5-over par for solo-third.

In addition to the championship divisions, Grant McCleskey of Texas (65-75) won the Boys 15-18 division at even-par 140 at Silverbell. At El Rio Golf Course, Maverick Midthun of Gilbert won the Boys 13-14 division in a playoff at even par (69-71—140). March Osland of Paradise Valley won the Boys 11-12 Division by a stroke at 5-over par (39-36—75), contested at El Rio Golf Course and his second win of the season.

In the Girls 15-18 division contested at Silverbell, Torrey Guerrero of Green Valley (77-75) captured the top spot at 12-over-par 152. At El Rio in the Girls 13-14 division, Alyssa Rigby of Goodyear (72-73) goes back-to-back by two strokes at 5-over-par 145. Phoenician Kimsey Terrell won the Girls 11-12 division by a resounding nine strokes at 4-over par (40-34—74). Terrell also went back-to-back as she won the Girls 10 and Under division a year ago. Brooke Servoss of Tucson won in the Girls 10 and Under Division in a playoff at 20-over par (50-40—90). She was the only Tucson local to win their respective age division.

This event is also a Local Qualifier for the Notah Begay Junior Championship. The juniors that advance from this Local Qualifier, will go to the Regional AZ Qualifier at Whirlwind Golf Club in September.
