2008 JGAA alum and eight-time winner on the Japan Tour Chan Kim claims his second Korn Ferry Tour victory on Sunday, August 27th at Hillcrest Country Club for the 2023 Albertsons Boise Open. With Kim’s second-straight win, he officially becomes PGA TOUR bound and climbs up to number two in the Korn Ferry Tour Top 30.
Tyler Anderson of Phoenix shot 5-under-par 66 to sit on top of the round-one leaderboard at the DLB Custom Homes Scottsdale City Junior Championship, held August 12-13 at TPC Scottsdale (Champions and Stadium), Orange Tree Golf Club and Continental Golf Club. Anderson collected seven birdies in the first round at TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course. Highlighted by a back-nine 33 to separate himself from the pack after day one.
JGAA alum and Pepperdine sophomore transfer Manhanth Chirravuri claims the 99th Arizona Amateur Championship at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale after draining a 25-foot eagle putt on 18 to clinch the victory. The championship match was a thrilling contest against ASU’s Kiko Coelho and came down to the very end.
Team Arizona – featuring Dylan Boenning, Dallin Delgado, Nicolas Lyman and Hogan O’Malley– came in third place at the 2023 Hogan Cup held at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Oregon, August 11-13. San Diego and Southern California both tied for first place at 15-over par as a team.
The 51st Annual Junior Americas Cup was hosted by the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association, at Red Hawk Golf & Resort, in Sparks Nevada. Team Arizona stacked up well on the big stage, placing fifth out of 18 teams representing their state, province, or country. The team included Henry Dall of Scottsdale, Brasen Briones of Tucson, Vincent Cervantes of Chandler, and Carlos Astiazaran of Tucson.
Singing Hills Golf Resort-Oak Glen hosted the Mary Cave Cup August 1-2 in El Cajon, California. Representing Arizona were Kate Hauptman of Phoenix, Eva Heinz of Goodyear, Mia Cesarek of Tucson, and Kaitlyn Helm of Litchfield Park. The tournament is a 36 hole, four-ball event with trophies being awarded to the top 2 teams and the low individual finisher. Team Arizona sent two teams of two to the San Diego area. Leading the charge for Arizona was Team 2 featuring Kate Hauptman and Kaitlyn Helm. The duo finished T-4 at six-under par for the event.
The American Junior Golf Association’s Salt Lake Junior took place August 1-3 at Glenmoor Golf Club. Landon Ashcraft of Scottsdale secured his first AJGA victory of his career and joins the winner’s circle. Ashcraft recorded two rounds in the 60s (67-68) and closed out the event with five birdies in the final round to seal it.
The American Junior Golf Association named 10 top junior girls to the 2023 PING Junior Solheim Cup United States team on Thursday, July 27. The TCU Horned Frog verbal commit Gracie McGovern of Scottsdale received an invitation to represent Team USA in the prestigious international junior golf event. McGovern qualified due to her high positioning in the Rolex AJGA rankings (9).
The accolades list continues to grow for Arizona State University senior Ashley Menne who has solidified her place in Arizona amateur golf history. She joins elite company with Arizona golf legends Heather Farr, Tui Selvaratnam, and Julie Stranger as the only women to earn three or more Arizona Women’s Amateur Championships. Menne started the tournament trailing by four strokes to current JGAA member and future Razorback Abbey Schutte of Litchfield Park, daughter of Warren Schutte.
