The 31st annual Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic delivered sunshine, suspense, and standout play across two exciting days of junior golf action, April 5–6, at Silverbell and El Rio Golf Courses.
In the Boys Championship division, Scottsdale’s Liam Allan opened strong with a 1-under 69 but found himself one shot behind Gilbert’s Malakai Jazayeri heading into Sunday. Day two at Silverbell tested the entire field, with six players in contention down the stretch. Allan held steady under pressure, making crucial par saves and dropping a clutch birdie on the par-4 1st to edge ahead. He sealed the win by a single stroke at even-par 140 (69-71), earning his first JGAA title of the season. A five-way tie followed for runner-up at +1: Quinton Breuer, Ryan Mosher, Ben Barrett, Jazayeri, and Nathan Ash.
The Girls Championship division also came down to the wire at Silverbell, where no player broke par across the weekend. It was a battle between Chandler’s Cynthia Lang, Scottsdale’s Charlene Lamb, and San Tan Valley’s Alexis Vakasiuola. Late mistakes from Vakasiuola opened the door, and Lang capitalized with calm, consistent play—firing a 1-over 36 on the front nine to take the win at 7-over-par 147 (75-72), just one shot ahead of her closest challengers.
In addition to the championship divisions, Parker Phillips of Peoria (76-69) won the Boys 15-18 division at 5-over par 145 at Silverbell. At El Rio Golf Course, Daniel Jinwoo Cha of Scottsdale won the Boys 13-14 division at 3-over par highlighted by breaking 70 in the final round (74-69—143). Maddux Zlotoff of Scottsdale won the Boys 11-12 Division in a playoff. Emery Bingham of Glendale also captured his victory in a playoff to secure the Boys 10 & Under division.
In the Girls 15-18 division contested at Silverbell, Samantha Evangelista of Queen Creek (78-70) captured the top spot at 8-over-par 148. At El Rio in the Girls 13-14 division, Malone Wall of Scottsdale (74-72) seals the deal by two strokes at 6-over-par 146. Amy Xuan of Chandler victorious in the Girls 11-12 division by a whopping ten strokes at 2-over par (36-36—72). Emmaline Dang won in the Girls 10 and Under Division at 13-over par (40-43—83). This year’s Spring Classic also served as a Local Qualifier for the Notah Begay III Junior National Golf Championship. Top finishers will move on to the Regional Qualifier at Whirlwind Golf Club in September.
