Shoutout to JGAA alum Matt McCarty on an incredible showing in his very first appearance at The Masters Tournament. Competing on golf’s grandest stage, McCarty held his own among the world’s best, finishing in a tie for 14th with a four-day total of 3-under-par 285 (71-68-75-71) at Augusta National.
A Scottsdale native and former standout at Santa Clara University, McCarty made a strong impression early in the week with a sensational second-round 68, highlighted by birdies on eight of his final 13 holes—including a streak of four straight on Nos. 6–9. That performance helped him safely make the cut and enter the weekend tied for fifth on the leaderboard.
Despite a few bumps on Saturday, McCarty rebounded with poise on Sunday, carding a steady 1-under 71 to close out an inspiring tournament. He finished alongside some of golf’s biggest names—Masters champions Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, and Jon Rahm—as well as Collin Morikawa and Tyrrell Hatton.
McCarty’s T14 finish at Augusta not only marks a major career milestone but also serves as a proud moment for the JGAA community. His growth from a junior player in Arizona to a PGA TOUR professional competing at The Masters is a shining example of the talent and dedication nurtured through junior golf.
Congratulations, Matt! Your journey continues to inspire the next generation of Arizona golfers.
