The Superstition Junior Classic presented by Action Golf Carts teed off April 26-27 at Mountain Brook Golf Club with exciting action across the board.
In the Boys Championship division, the first round saw 12 players post scores in the 60s, with five players within two shots of the lead. Ryan Rasmussen of Goodyear led the way after firing a 4-under 66, but the competition remained tight heading into round two. Trailing by just one stroke, Kaj Johnston of Scottsdale mounted a comeback. The Betsy King Junior World Qualifier champion put together a clutch final round, carding five birdies and just one bogey to outlast the packed field. Johnston captured the win at 7-under par, earning back-to-back victories on the JGAA circuit. Rasmussen and Jackson Pieratt of Phoenix finished tied for second at 6-under par.
In the Girls Championship division, Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley delivered a dominant performance from start to finish. She set the tone early with a 4-under 67—the only round in the 60s on day one—powered by five birdies. Holding a three-shot lead entering the final round, Vakasiuola closed with another impressive scorecard, a 2-under 69, finishing 6-under par for the tournament. She was the only player in the Girls division to post under par and secured a commanding six-shot victory—her second JGAA win of the season. Tyla Greenwood of Tucson and Beau Ellington of Paradise Valley tied for runner-up honors at even par.
In the Boys 15-18 division, Kallum DeGuia of Tucson broke through for his first win of the 2025 season, finishing at 4-over par (68-76). His opening-round 68 marked his lowest score of the year and set the pace for a hard-earned victory.
Meanwhile, in the Girls 15-18 division, Victoria Cosenza of Phoenix edged the field with rounds of 73-72 to finish at 3-over par and claim her first win of the 2025 season.
A special thanks to Action Golf Carts, Steve Dallas and the Mountain Brook team for their continued dedication to junior golf in Arizona!
