For the second consecutive year, Team Arizona left the Eddie Hogan Cup with hardware, taking 3rd place at 6-over par in the 58th annual edition of one of junior golf’s most competitive team events. The tournament was contested Aug. 8-9 at Riverside Country Club in Portland, Oregon.
Frederick Egnatios paced the Arizona squad, carding rounds of 70-73 for a 1-over 143 and a share of 5th place individually. Owen Greenough of Chandler backed him up with a Top-10 finish at 2-over, while Scottsdale’s Easton Reischl (4-over, T13) and Tucson’s AJ Ramos (10-over, inside the Top 25) rounded out the four-man roster.
Arizona’s back-to-back podium finishes come in a field that annually draws the top junior golfers from the Western United States and Canada, competing in a 36-hole team format where each squad’s three lowest daily scores determine the standings. The event, first played in 1969, has developed into one of the sport’s premier recruiting showcases. Alumni include Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Peter Jacobsen and Kirk Triplett, among others who went on to make their mark at the professional level.
With consecutive top-three finishes now on the books, Team Arizona establishes itself among the strongest state programs in junior golf, and the group will look to build on the momentum heading into next year’s event.
