- Beau Ellington
- Nicholas Lyman
The 2025 Arizona State Junior Golf Championship brought the heat—literally and figuratively—with birdies flying and scorecards bleeding red at the pristine Paradise Valley Country Club. Over three days, Arizona’s top 82 junior golfers put on a show, but two names rose above the rest.
In the Girls Championship Division, 13-year-old Beau Ellington (Class of 2030) stole the spotlight—and the title. The eighth grader delivered a breakout performance, firing a bogey-free 68 (-4) in the final round to clinch a four-shot victory over Yale commit Anya Mathur. Ellington finished at 6-under-par, becoming the only player in the field to card three straight rounds under par (71-71-68). Oh, and did we mention she just qualified for the PGA Junior Championship earlier this month? Big things are coming.
Mathur, always a contender, took solo second at 2-under, while Cindy Yang (visiting from California) finished third at 1-over.
Bonus round of applause for Izzy Piazza of Phoenix, who aced the 145-yard par-3 with an 8-iron—her fifth career hole-in-one. Absolute respect.
In the Boys Championship Division, Nicholas Lyman of Surprise (Class of 2025) came out on top after a tense battle with Evan Tyree. Tyree led after two rounds, but a final-round 76 cracked the door open. Lyman walked right through it with a steady 1-under 71, finishing at 5-under for the week to grab his second win of the 2025 season. He is committed to play at UT Arlington next Fall.
But the drama didn’t stop there—Asher Nelson stormed into contention with a ridiculous 8-under 64, the lowest round of the tournament, vaulting into a tie for second with Oliver Uribe of Scottsdale at 4-under.
