Team Hawaii recorded its fifth team victory in Junior Americas Cup history at the 2023 Girls Junior Americas Cup, held July 24-27 at Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course in Oliver, British Columbia, Canada. They held onto a two-stroke lead earned in the first round for the win at 11-over par, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Team Southern California. Team Arizona shot rounds of 13-over 229, 10-over 226 and 13-over 229 to finish the tournament in fourth place at 36-over-par 684.

Much like a collegiate event, the Girls Junior America’s Cup showcases 18 teams of four girls representing their state, province, or country. The competition is held over 54-holes with each team counting its best three scores each round. The Girls Junior America’s Cup features teams from Arizona, Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Mexico, Montana, New Mexico, Northern California, Southern California, Northern Nevada, Southern Nevada, Oregon, San Diego, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Hawaii also came out on top in the individual field as Honolulu’s Kara Kaneshiro won the individual title by two strokes with rounds of 74-70-74 to finish at two-over par. Arizona’s Claire Chang led the way in the individual field with a 74-73-76 scorecard to finish inside the top-10 at seven-over par. Taylor Wilczek of Anthem put up steady rounds of 76-77-78 to finish in the top-20 at 15-over par. Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley finished T-31 with rounds of 79-76-83 (+22). Lena Durette of Scottsdale, who played in the PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach last year, posted 79-85-79 to end up at 27-over par and 44th place.
