The annual JGAA Fall Classic Presented by Elite Golf Schools Golf Club was in full swing, Nov. 4-5, at Lone Tree, Augusta Ranch and Las Colinas Golf Clubs. In the Boys Championship division at Lone Tree, the tournament kicked off with a tight leaderboard featuring ten players in the 60s. Leading the charge in the first round with a six-under 65 was Chase Pickering of Tucson, while Vincent Cervantes of Chandler was outside looking in at four-under 67. Sitting two shots back of the leader, Cervantes came running out of the gates in the final round with five-straight birdies and a bogey-free front nine. Cervantes became the only player in the field to maintain his momentum from his first-round success as he began to separate himself from the pack. His outstanding performance led to an insurmountable lead at eight-under 63 to rack up the victory by five strokes at 12-under par for the event (67-63-130). The win was Cervantes’ second JGAA victory of the 2023 season. Jaylen Choi of Chandler concluded the event with an impressive 10-under-par final round to work his way back into the mix, his lowest round of the season. Jaylen Choi, Finn Meister of Tucson, and Ethan Butters of Chandler all tied for runner-up in the Boys Championship division at seven-under par.
In the Girls Championship division held at Las Colinas, Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley continued to build on her dominate season as she stayed near the top of the leaderboard throughout the event. She embarked on a relentless final-round run, going bogey-free and collecting seven birdies. Vakasiuola showcased her Player of the Year talent as she boasted a four-shot lead on Alexis Lamadrid of Phoenix at eight-under par (70-64-134). The San Tan native goes back-to-back at the JGAA Fall Classic and adds to her impressive resume with win number five on the year. Angela Zhikun Chen of Chandler placed third in the Girls Championship division at three-under par (71-68-139).
Oliver Uribe of Scottsdale emerged with top honors in the Boys 15-18 division at Lone Tree, delivering a brilliant performance with low rounds of 67 and 65. He finished at nine-under par and an achieving an eight-stroke win.
In the Girls 15-18 division, held at Las Colinas, a three-way tie for first place unfolded with a closely contested battle till the very end. Colorado’s Taylor Hale prevailed in a playoff to earn the title.
In the Boys 13-14 division, held at Las Colinas Golf Club, Jameison Chaidez from Goodyear exhibited his perseverance, shooting seven-under par with two rounds in the 60s and a two-stroke victory (67-68-135).
Hana McGarry of San Diego clinched the Girls 13-14 division at Las Colinas Golf Club with rounds of 76 and 68, finishing at two-over par and an exceptional seven stroke advantage from the rest of the field.
At Augusta Ranch Golf Club, Kellen Amis from Scottsdale took home the trophy in the Boys 11-12 division title. Amis ended up three-over par for the tournament and won in a playoff.
In the Girls 11-12 division at Augusta Ranch, Samantha Evangelista from Scottsdale demonstrated her exceptional skills, shooting 62 which resulted in a resounding seven-stroke margin as the champion at one-over par.
The younger golfers also displayed their talent, with Cam Abood from Paradise Valley claiming the Boys 10 and Under division title in a playoff at Augusta Ranch with a two-over-par score of 63. Amy Xuan from Chandler won the Girls 10 and Under division with a score of six-over par, 67.
