Tyler Anderson of Phoenix shot 5-under-par 66 to sit on top of the round-one leaderboard at the DLB Custom Homes Scottsdale City Junior Championship, held August 12-13 at TPC Scottsdale (Champions and Stadium), Orange Tree Golf Club and Continental Golf Club. Anderson collected seven birdies in the first round at TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course. Highlighted by a back-nine 33 to separate himself from the pack after day one. Round two was a different story for Anderson as he battled throughout the entirety of the final round. Due to a lot of pars coming out the gate, Anderson stayed even keel heading into the back nine. Down the stretch was a rollercoaster of bogeys and birdies, but he managed to maintain his lead and finish at two-over-par 73. The Phoenician ended up holding on to come out victorious by one stroke at three-under par– ahead of Adam Croix of Peoria and James Rogers of Scottsdale. Croix and Rogers both tied for second place at two-under par for the event (70-70 and 68-72).
Cameron Summerhays of Scottsdale, brother of renown collegiate golfer and JGAA alum Preston Summerhays, finished at T-4 at one-under par (70-71). Nicholas Butkiewicz of Scottsdale also wrapped up at one-under par (70-71).
The Girls Championship division, also contested at TPC Scottsdale, had Cynthia Lang’s name all over it. Lang put up a consistent 36 holes of golf to keep her atop the leaderboard from the get-go. Cynthia Lang of Chandler posted mirror-like rounds of 72-72 to earn top honors and win by two strokes. Her first round featured both a double and triple bogey. Yet she still found a way to bounce back and not let it get to her. Lang still salvaged the round with four birdies on day one. The win makes it back-to-back victories for Lang (last played in Maricopa Junior Championship).
In the Boys 15-18 division, hosted on TPC’s Stadium and Champions Courses, Hudson Parker of Tucson took first-place honors with a 72-72—144, a two-over -par performance. At Orange Tree Golf Club, Zachary Schaefer of Tucson dominated the field with an impressive 10-under-par 134 (66-68) to win by nine in the Boys 13-14 division. At Continental Golf Club, Cason Dezzani (61) of Scottsdale finished first place in the Boys 11-12 division at one-over-par.
