Gracie McGovern of Scottsdale and Raegan Capizzi of Scottsdale have qualified and advanced to the 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bel-Air Country Club. Gracie McGovern (-6) took total control to earn the low score, while Raegan Capizzi (three-under) earned one of the other four spots. McGovern came out of the gates full speed ahead as she recorded four birdies and a bogeyless front nine (32). McGovern didn’t miss a beat as she turned onto the back nine, gathering three more birdies to finish with a 66 on the scorecard to seal the deal with top honors. She won by three strokes ahead of Raegan Capizzi during the qualifier. Capizzi stayed consistent throughout the round, with five birdies and only two bogeys for the day. The two-time JGAA winner in the Girls Championship division finished the competition with a 69 to place tied for runner-up. Gracie Mcgovern currently ranks just outside the top 10 in the Rolex AJGA Rankings as she won the PING Heather Farr Classic back in April.
The 2023 U.S. Women’s Amateur is set for August 7-13 in the “City of Angels.” This is the first of three USGA competitions to be staged at Bel-Air in a seven-year period. Broadcast times are TBD. Best of luck to our JGAA members as they take the big stage in their amateur golf career.
