2023 JGAA Boys 13-14 Player of the Year Zachary Schaefer of Tucson and Parker Tang of Buckeye competed at Augusta National this past Sunday for the 10th annual Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. The Catalina Foothills High School freshman, Schaefer, made the most of his final Drive, Chip and Putt appearance by earning runner up honors in the Boys 14-15 division and won the putting category. His longest drive was 262 yards and hit his final chip within 2’4’’ for a total score of 25, one back of the victor Connor Holden of Oregon. Parker Tang of Buckeye clinched first place in the Boys 7-9 division and even hit a hole-in-one in the putting category.
Both qualified for the finals at a regional qualifier back in September at Desert Mountain Golf Club’s Outlaw Course to secure a spot on the big stage.
Eighty junior golfers representing 31 U.S. states, one Canadian province and Australia have earned an invitation to compete at Augusta National Golf Club in the 10th annual Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. Conducted in partnership with the USGA, the Masters Tournament and the PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free, nationwide youth golf development program open to boys and girls, ages 7-15, in four age divisions. The three-pronged competition tests the skills essential to playing the game – accuracy in driving, chipping, and putting.
“We are so proud of Zachary and Parker on their impressive outing at the prestigious Augusta National,” said JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin. “It is so awesome to see their success transfer over to the national stage.”
