The 90th edition of the WM Phoenix Open always showcases the best golfers in the world, including three former JGAA players who teed it up at TPC Scottsdale earlier this month. Among the alumni in the field were Matt McCarty, Chez Reavie and Frankie Capan III. From being a standard bearer at the tournament as a kid, to representing your hometown at pro golf’s most unique event, McCarty’s dreams came true with his whole family and friends in attendance to cheer him on. McCarty has emerged as golf’s rising star after securing his first PGA TOUR victory at the inaugural Black Desert Championship in Utah. His breakout success follows a dominant 2024 summer on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he won three times in just six weeks, earning his PGA TOUR card in the process. Capan III is originally from North Oaks, Minnesota but resided in Phoenix and played high school golf out of Northwest Christian High School. The current PGA TOUR player was a back-to-back state champion and competed in both AJGA and JGAA events. Former ASU Sun Devil and Mesa standout Chez Reavie is a PGA TOUR veteran who has three victories under his belt.
“We are immensely proud of all three competing at the highest level,” said JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin. “Creating the next generation of pro golfers is something that brings us so much pride. Way to represent the JGAA!”
