Four Arizona Junior Golfers Qualify for USGA Championships

The Girls and Boys USGA Junior Amateur Qualifiers teed off Monday, June 10 at Terravita Golf & Country Club and The Country Club at DC Ranch. On the boy’s side, Ajay Morris of Avondale qualified to play in the U.S. Junior Amateur with a first-place, 4-under-par 67, one stroke ahead Tanner Barra of Manhattan Beach and Henry Dall of Cave Creek, 4-under-par 67, at The Country Club at DC Ranch. Rounding out the final qualifying spot in the boy’s division was Adam Croix, making the cut at 2-under-par 69 to advance to Bloomfield Hills. Alex Radevski and Finn Meister will be the two alternates. The U.S. Junior Amateur will be hosted next month, July 22-27, by Oakland Hills Country Club, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Oakland Hills Country Club becomes the ninth venue to host a U.S. Open and a U.S. Junior Amateur.

In the girl’s division, three players punched their ticket to El Caballero Country Club. Contested at Terravita Golf and Country Club, last year’s JGAA Player of the Year Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley, Brynn Kort of Nevada and Kylee Choi of California all qualified at 1-under-par 71. Isabella Piazza of Phoenix and Olivia Hung of Taipei City will be the two alternates. The Girls U.S. Junior Amateur will be hosted next month, July 15-20, by El Caballero Country Club, Tarzana, Calif.

Among them, one of the four Arizona qualifiers aims to be the first JGAA golfer to win either the USGA Junior Amateur or USGA Girls Junior Amateur since Preston Summerhays’ victory in 2019 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
