The Elite Golf School Willie Low Invitational presented by MJ Insurance took place at Phoenix Country Club, June 26-27. In the first round, Nash Arthurs of Peoria finished with the outright lead at 4-under par (67), while Owen Bolles of Chandler and Tyler Spielman remained within striking distance. However, the second round was a whole different story. Owen Bolles was firing on all cylinders and recorded four birdies on the back nine to post a 3-under 32 and conclude his round with a 3-under 68 for the day. Tyler Spielman one-upped him though and fired a tournament-low score at 7-under par (64). Spielman was seeing a whole bunch of red on the scorecard as he summed up eight birdies and no bogeys. The neck-and-neck race in the Boys Championship division ended up leading to a playoff with Tyler Spielman (-5) and Owen Bolles (-5) duking it out for top honors. Bolles made par on the first playoff hole to secure the victory and come out on top. The win makes it his fourth on the year in the Boys Championship division.
On the girls side, Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley and Kaitlyn Helm sat atop of the pack at 1-over par in the first round at 72. Vakasiuola began to separate from Helm and the rest of the contenders as she continued her first-round success. In the second round, she stayed even-keeled down the stretch and recorded an even-par 35 to post a 2-over 73 to solidify her victory. Vakasiuola finished the tournament at 3-over par and wound up winning by an impressive five strokes. Her hot streak continues as she collects her third victory of the season and second in the past month. Alexis currently has an imposing lead in the Player of the Year Points Race presented by The Golembiewski Team with over 1,000 points.
“It was a great field plus the tournament experience was even better thanks to our new Title Sponsor Riley Andrews and Elite Golf Schools and our continued presenting sponsorship from MJ Insurance,” said JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin.
