Mattison Frick Wins Event for Third-Straight Year
Laveen resident Noah Nuez notched his second JGAA win of the year in the Boys Championship Division by firing a 9-under-par 201 (64-69-68) at Encanto G.C. at the Antigua Milt Coggins AZ Junior Stroke Play, a 54-hole event held June 4-6. In February, Nuez also won the Phoenix Metro Jr. So far this season, he has posted two wins, a 2nd, a 3rd, a T4 and T5 in nine events played.
Nuez held off Damon Vilkauskas (69-64-68) in a sudden-death playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole after the two players were tied after the conclusion of the third round. Tucker Clark (67-72-65) finished third, three shots off the lead at 6-under-par 204.
In the Girls Championship Division, Mattison Frick of Peoria found herself in the winner’s circle at Encanto once again after pulling away from the field with a 5-under-par 65 in her second round sandwiched between a 2-over 72 in the first round and a 5-over 75 in her final round to win by 12 strokes over Ivy Song (75-71-78 – 224) of Surprise who finished second, and 14 strokes ahead of Carolyn Fuller (80-76-70 – 226) of Phoenix who finished in third. This is Frick’s third-straight victory at the Antigua Milt Coggins, wining the Girls 13-14 Division in 2017 and 2018.
In addition to the Championship Divisions, Vincent Cervantes of Chandler won the Boys 15-18 Division at 3-over par (71-72-70 – 213); Adam Miller of Phoenix won the Boys 13-14 Division at 7-under par (70-70-69 – 209); Dylan Boenning of Scottsdale edged out Own Bolles of Florence by one stroke to win the Boys 11-12 Division at 8-over par (37-42-37 – 116); and John Meza of Dewey (57-53-57 – 167) won the Boys 10 and Under Division at 59-over par.
On the Girls side, Taylor Naumann of Gilbert won the Girls 15-18 Division at 19-over par (80-78-71 – 229); Raegan Capizzi (82-86-73 – 241) of Scottsdale held of Annie Dawson on the
fourth playoff hole to capture the Girls 13-14 Division at 25-over par; Natalia Lamadrid of Phoenix took the Girls 11-12 Division (42-40-37 – 119); and Ashley Shaw of Litchfield Park won the 10 and Under Division (39-37-34 – 110, +2).
