Fresh from a T3 finish two weeks prior, Kaj Johnston of Cave Creek broke through in the Boys Championship division for his first win of the season at the 2024 Phoenix City Junior Championship, contested July 30-31 at Aguila Golf Course and The Legacy Golf Resort.

Johnston fired a first round 1-under-par 71 at Aguila GC to sit one stroke off the lead heading into the final round where he followed with a 4-under-par 68. His 5-under-par tournament total topped two players tied for second place – Cooper Ingram of Scottsdale and Jake Goyen of Mesa – who both shot 70-70 to finish at -4, one stroke off the pace.

In the Girls Championship division also contested at Aguila GC, Kaitlyn Moreland of Scottsdale opened a five-stroke lead with a 5-under-par 67 in the first round. She then cruised to victory at -4 after adding a final round 73. Lucy Newell of Oro Valley shot steady rounds of 72-70 to earn second place at -2. And three players tied for third place at +4:  Makenna Cox (73-75) of Scottsdale, Madalyn Gubernick (73-75) of Cave Creek and Grace Rubelsky (74-74) of Phoenix, who will be playing golf for Washington State University in the fall.   

In the Boys 15-18 division, Griffin Udall (72-72) of Mesa and Jackson McLaughlin (71-73) of Tempe shot even par at Aguila GC to finish tied for first place. Udall later prevailed in a playoff. In the Girls 15-18 division Isabel Helgemoe of Scottsdale fired 3-over-par, 71-76, to win by two strokes at Aguila.  

Ty Gould of Gilbert posted -8 with two rounds in the 60s (67-67) at The Legacy Golf Resort to win the Boys 13-14 division by a 12-stroke margin. Hayden Nguyen (69-75) of Peoria came in first place in the Girls 13-14 division at +2.  

Nolan Wilson of Litchfield Park shot 4-under-par 50 at Aguila Par 3 to win the Boys 11-12 championship, while Kimsey Terrell of Phoenix did the same in the Girls 11-12 division with a score of 3-over-par 57.

In the Boys 10 and Under division Joey Morin (56) of Gilbert shot +2 at Aguila Par 3 for the win, and Harper Wojtcuk (71) shot +17 for the victory in the Girls 10 and Under division.
