Grayhawk Golf Club’s signature Raptor course played host to the 2023 JGAA Holiday Challenge sponsored by MassMutual Arizona. The Holiday Challenge, played on December 20, featured 64 boys and 32 girls that competing in an 18-hole two-person team scramble event.
Rounding off the Boys Team Championship division, the team of Adam Croix of Peoria, AZ and Nash Arthurs of Peoria, AZ carded a 31 four-under on the front nine. Team Croix and Arthurs ended up securing a one-shot lead to victory by shooting a seven-under-par 63. Trailing behind, Brody Leid of Phoenix, AZ and Hogan O’Malley of Tempe, AZ chased after the lead on the back nine with a 31 to wrap up the round. Team Leid and O’Malley ended up carding a solid six-under par 62, featuring a four-under par on the back nine to finish solo second. In addition, The Boys Championship division also played the Raptor course as a par 70. Two teams ended up finishing the tournament tied for third. Team’s Evan Cross of Prescott, AZ, Jonathan Tso of Prescott AZ; Team Trey Moore of Scottsdale, AZ, and Oscar Uribe of Scottsdale, AZ completed the event at five-under par 65.
The Girls Championship division played the Raptor course as a par 72. Team Eleanor Warden of Las Cruces, NM and Rylee Salome of Los Lunas, NM made one shot back behind, Team Ashley Shaw of Litchfield Park, AZ and Blayne Brown of Riverside, CA. Warden and Salome ended up taking home the title with a one shot lead, scoring an impressive five-under par, 67. Two teams finished the event tied for second-place, including Team Ashley Shaw of Litchfield Park, AZ and Blayne Brown of Riverside, CA. Team Kate Hauptman of Phoenix, AZ, and Jayden Jevnick of Cave Creek, AZ both carded a four-under 68 to complete the 2023 JGAA Holiday Challenge.
