JGAA Alumni Johnnie Clark Reigns Victorious at Arizona Stroke Play Championship

By August 13, 2024August 21st, 2024No Comments

The 2024 Arizona Stroke Play Championship was held from Aug. 8-11 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. After 36-holes of play, the field was cut down to 49 players. After withstanding three days of golf in the blistering heat, JGAA Alumni Johnnie Clark went into the final round of the Arizona Stroke Play Championship holding onto the lead by a shot ahead of Sean O’Donnell.

Clark went into the final round strong and ended up making four birdies on the front to card a 32 (–3) for the front nine. After making the turn at 3-under par, Clark went on to birdie the 10th, 12th, and even making an eagle on the par-5 15th to get to 7-under par for the day. Despite making a double bogey on the final hole, Clark ended up winning by 5 shots for a total tournament score of -19 under-par (66-65-68-66).

It seems that Longbow suits Clark’s game favorably well, as he won the AJGA Heather Farr Classic back in 2022 by 6 shots for a three-round total of 14-under par. Clark was also named JGAA Player of the Year in 2022. Since finishing out his junior golf career, Clark is currently entering his sophomore year at Oklahoma State University.

We are excited to continue to keep an eye on Clark throughout his amateur golf career and are so thrilled of everything he has accomplished on and off the course. Go Pokes!
