Brigowatz fired off six birdies and made eagle on the last hole of the tournament to put the icing on the cake and win by a stroke ahead of Landon Ashcraft of Scottsdale, 70-68. Brody Leid of Phoenix tied for the lead after round one, but couldn’t carry it over into the final round and wound up finishing in third place at five-under, 68-71.
In the Girls Championship division, contested at Talking Stick Golf Club- O’odham Course, Izzy Piazza of Scottsdale stood in a three-way tie for first place with Annie Dawson of Phoenix and Madalyn Gubernick of Cave Creek at 1-under 69. The final round was closely contested as the leaderboard was stacked near the top. However, Izzy prevailed under pressure as she recorded two birdies and an eagle in the final round to score two 69s for the tournament. Piazza won by two strokes ahead of Annie Dawson at 2-under par for the event. The win is Piazza’s second victory of the season (New Year Classic).
On the Padre Course, Nicolas Drake of Mesa won the Boys 15-18 division after shooting 72-70, 2-under par, and Bianka Goerke of Benson took the Girls 15-18 division with rounds of 84-73 (+17) at Talking Stick Golf Club. At +7, Mischa Wang (76-71) of Scottsdale took first place at Talking Stick’s O’odham Course in the Girls 13-14 division, collecting her third victory this season.
The Boys 13-14 division was played at Talking Stick Golf Club- O’odham Course, with Ethan Butters of Chandler coming in first at 1-under-par 139 (70-69), which featured a final round in the 60s.
Also contested on the O’odham Course, Hayden Nguyen of Peoria won the Girls 11-12 division at 11-over-par 81 (41-40) while Cason Dezzani of Scottsdale won the Boys 11-12 division at an impressive 4-under-par 66 (35-31).
Cat Dann of Mesa won the Boys 10 and Under division in a playoff at 2-over-par 72 (37-35), and Kimsey Terrell of Phoenix shot 2-over-par 72 (35-37) to win in the Girls 10 and Under division by three strokes.
