Three spots were up for grabs yesterday at Pinnacle Peak Country Club for the USGA Girls Junior Am Qualifier. Izzy Piazza of Phoenix qualified to play in the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur with top medalist status, carding a 3-under-par 69, two strokes ahead of both Ailis Tribolet of Chandler and Kaitlyn Moreland of Scottsdale. Piazza came out firing on all cylinders as she led the field in multiple stat categories, such as recording five birdies and going three under on par 4s for the day. Tribolet and Moreland each ended up 1-under-par for the day to receive the final two spots to earn their way to the Eisenhower G.C. at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Anya Mathur of Scottsdale, who won the Thunderbird Invitational in March, qualified for the USGA Girls Junior Amateur yesterday near the top of the leaderboard at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Oregon. Mathur finished with a one-under 71 to secure one of the four spots. The U.S. Girls Junior Amateur will be hosted next month, July 17-22, by U.S. Air Force Academy Eisenhower G.C., Colorado Springs, Colorado.
