The JGAA cleans house at the American Junior Golf Association’s Jim Click Automotive/HSL Properties Championship, June 1-3 at the iconic Tucson Country Club. Both Finn Meister of Tucson and Julia Herzberg of Gilbert secured their first AJGA victory and joined the winner’s circle. Meister managed to pull it off in his own backyard, recording three rounds in the 60s (64-69-69) and closed out the event with six birdies in the final round to seal it. The Boys leaderboard was between Meister and Corrington Case of as he gave the local kid a run for his money. However, the pressure didn’t get to Meister, and he fired off a three-under 69 to be one up on Corrington to win the event. The future Mississippi Rebel had a total score of 14-under 202 over three rounds. The victory will make Meister’s presence felt on the national stage as he now has a win under his belt in just three appearances.
As for the Girls side, Julia Herzberg outperformed current JGAA star Alexis Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley. Herzberg carded the lowest score in the entire field in the second round at 6-under 66, highlighted by six birdies and a bogey-free scorecard. She would go on to stay the course throughout the rest of the tournament as she posted an even-par 72 to separate herself from the pack at 7-under par to conclude the event. She would end up winning by three strokes ahead of last year’s JGAA Player of the Year Alexis Vakasiuola.
“Watching our current members succeed on the big stage and get amazing exposure to advance their game to the next level is so rewarding for all of us at the JGAA,” said JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin. “We are thrilled to see both Finn and Julia receive their first AJGA victory. The future is bright for these two!”
