The second PING Junior Masters Series event kicked off this past weekend at Orange Tree Golf Club for the inaugural Scottsdale Charros Junior Invitational. The series attracts top-ranked boys and girls from Arizona, along with a select group of talented juniors from out of state, all eager to challenge their skills against our incredible local talent. The event highlighted the rising stars of golf, many of whom will eventually compete at the collegiate level.
In the Boys Championship Division, the field bunched up after the first round with three players firing off a 6-under 66. Dylan Boenning of Phoenix looked to continue his hot streak after winning the Warren Schutte Invitational presented by Hilgers Orthodontics. The final round brought plenty of drama as the standings remained tightly contested coming down the stretch. In fact, the division came down to the very last hole to determine the winner. After exchanging blows with Blake Brown of Utah, Evan Tyree of Scottsdale and Frederick Egnatios of Scottsdale, Boenning sinks a clutch birdie putt on hole 18 to secure his second-straight PING Junior Masters Series win. Brown, Tyree and Egnatios all tied for second place at 9-under par.
The Girls Championship division also proved to be a barnburner with four players concluding the event in red figures. The two rounds deemed not enough to decide the top spot, leading to a head-to-head playoff between Anya Mathur of Scottsdale and Beau Ellington of Paradise Valley. Tied at 4-under par for the event, Anya Mathur secured the win in the girls division after a one-hole playoff vs Beau Ellington. The win marks her first of the 2025 season and second-ever PING Junior Masters Series event.
