The Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) announced that the 23rd annual Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic will tee off this weekend, April 18-19 featuring 122 of Arizona’s best junior golfers (boys and girls) ages 8-18 competing in the tournament. Silverbell Golf Course will host Saturday’s round with tee times beginning at 10 a.m., and Tucson National Golf Resort (Catalina Course) will host the final round on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Spectators are welcome.
“The Tucson Conquistadores have shown firsthand what can be accomplished when a group of like-minded people come together,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “After 23 years, this tournament continues to attract the top junior golfers in the state. We sincerely appreciate their vision and commitment to junior golf.”
This year’s field in the Boys Championship Division will include Tucson resident Austin Rustand, a 17-year-old junior at Sabino High School who took second place in last year’s Tucson Conquistadores Spring Classic. He also plays point guard on the Sabino High basketball team.
Trevor Werbylo of Tucson enters the field after a T9 finish at the Thunderbird Invitational in March. The 16-year-old sophomore at Salpointe Catholic High School also notched two, top-10 finishes last season including runner-up at The Thompson Invitational.
In the Girls Championship Division, Sydney Colwill, 18-year-old senior at Ironwood Ridge High School, played in two events this season with her best result coming in the Thunderbird Invitational where she finished in second place. Last year, she notched five, top-5 finishes that included two wins – the Tucson City Jr. Championship and the AZ Jr. Match Play Championship. Colwill has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Memphis next fall.
