First PING Junior Master Series event of the season features 84 of Arizona’s top junior golfer.

The Wigwam Invitational kicks off January 26-27 at Wigwam Golf Club and sponsored by Warren Schutte Players Academy and PING. This is the season’s first PING Junior Masters Series tournament – the 36-hole, invitation-only, series of events tailored to Arizona junior golfers with the desire and ability to compete locally against top-ranked peers.

“The Wigwam Invitational is a great opportunity for junior athletes to test their skills against fellow competitors without traveling far from home.” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “The PING Junior Masters is designed to give our junior golfers the feel of playing more competitive tournaments at the best golf courses in the Valley.”

The field for the event is limited to 78 players (48 boys and 30 girls) in the JGAA Boys and Girls Championship Divisions (view full field here) who were invited to compete by virtue of their national ranking by Junior Golf Scoreboard – boys must be in the top 3,500 and girls in the top 1,500. Tee times for both rounds are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. with round one on the Red Course and round two on the Gold Course. An awards ceremony will be held following play on Sunday.

The JGAA’s Junior Masters Series consists of five tournaments contested at some of the most prestigious courses in Arizona.

“We aim to provide a competition that inspires these juniors to participate and grow with one another,” said George Getz, Chairman of the Board of the JGAA. “The Junior Masters series will allow athletes to earn national-level points and will serve as a launching pad into nationally chartered events.”

Openings for junior players from neighboring states will be dependent on availability at each event. Qualified junior players can sign up for the Junior Major Series by visiting www.jgaa.org.
