Desert Highlands Golf Club hosted a local qualifier July 7 for the upcoming 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur, set for Washington’s Chambers Bay, August 8-14. Goodyear’s Abbey Schutte took top honors, firing 3-under 69. With two birdies and three bogies, she made the turn at +1 before catching fire on the back nine, making birdies on 11, 15, 17 and 18 to win by two strokes. In most recent 2022 JGAA competition, she won the coveted FBGA-PING Jr Masters tournament in February.

Fresh from a late-June win at the Willie Low Invitational, Scottsdale’s Gracie McGovern qualified after shooting even-par 72. Her red-hot front nine, where she covered a lone bogey under four birdies (2, 3, 4 and 9), pushed McGovern into a tie for third place alongside two others.

Chandler’s Ailis Tribolet emerged from a seven-way playoff to pick up the final spot. She entered the qualifier on the heels of a July 14 victory in the Girls Championship division at the 2022 State Junior Golf Championship. Beginning on No. 10, she made the turn at level-par after two birdies and two bogeys. She then closed the front at 1-over to shot 73 alongside six others.

2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur airs on NBC Golf, August 10-14.
