Two JGAA alumni earned individual college honors this week. Texas A&M’s Wheaton Ennis won the Fighting Irish Classic, and Vanderbilt’s Carlos Astiazaran tied for first at the Cullan Brown Collegiate.

Ennis closed with a 3-under 67 on Oct. 5 at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., to finish at 7-under 203 (67-69-67—203) and win by two strokes. It was his first collegiate victory. He was one of two golfers in the 81-player field to shoot under par in all three rounds, and he led the field on par 4s at 5-under. His performance helped Texas A&M finish second, one stroke behind California. On Oct. 7, the SEC named him its Golfer of the Week, the first such honor of his career.

Astiazaran, a senior from Tucson, Ariz., tied for first with Tennessee’s Christian Pardue at 9-under 204 (69-66-69—204) on Oct. 6 at Lexington Country Club in Lexington, Ky. The 54-hole score was the lowest of his Vanderbilt career, and his second-round 66 was his best single round as a Commodore. It was his third collegiate victory and his first with Vanderbilt, and his first since the 2024-25 Nick Watney Invitational during his final season at the University of the Pacific. Astiazaran is the first Commodore to win an event this season.
