Notches first NCAA win at Atlanta’s historic East Lake Golf Club

JGAA alum Preston Summerhays erased two early bogies with six birdies on the final 12 holes to take the co-medalist title at the coveted East Lake Cup (Oct. 25-27) alongside Chris Gotterup of Oklahoma. The freshman Sun Devil secured his first collegiate win with a 4-under 68, leading the team to a semifinal appearance before elimination and fresh off a victory the week before at the Isleworth Invitational.

“This is another huge confidence booster,” said Summerhays.

Coach Thurmond agreed: “You make bogeys out here and you don’t know if you’re going to get them back. To come back from that, it’s just amazing,” he said.

The 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur champion joined the JGAA in 2012 at age 10. With nearly 50 events entered since then, Summerhays finished his JGAA career in style after three-straight victories in the JGAA’s competitive PING Jr Masters Series tournaments.
