It was a statement win for JGAA member Pierson Huyck of Phoenix, who captured his first career AJGA title at the Mesa Hohokams Junior All-Star presented by the Thunderbirds, held May 1–4 at Alta Mesa Country Club.
The 15-year-old went wire-to-wire to claim the Boys Division title, posting a 12-under-par 204 across 54 holes, including a bogey-free 64 (-8) opening round and 15 birdies throughout the tournament. His consistency and control never wavered as he held the lead from start to finish against a competitive national field.
The 2025 tournament marked the third year of the Mesa HoHoKams Junior All-Star and its first appearance at Alta Mesa Country Club. The event featured 78 junior golfers (ages 12–15) from 16 states, including 20 Arizona natives and 11 past AJGA champions.
For Huyck, the victory represents a breakthrough after several close calls. Entering the week, he had four top-five AJGA finishes, including a runner-up finish at this same event in 2024. He now boasts six top-five finishes overall in AJGA events and continues to establish himself as one of Arizona’s rising stars in junior golf.
Congratulations to Pierson on his well-earned win and a stellar performance!
