Oklahoma Boomer Sooner Ben Lorenz competed at the Division I Men’s Rancho Santa Fe Regional this week. The Peoria native and JGAA alum put together an amazing final round on Wednesday, recording a career-low, clean-card 64 (-6) in the final round to come from behind and win the individual title by four strokes. The Sooner squad, with the help of Lorenz’ performance, advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 13th consecutive season. The OU Men’s Golf Team climbed up the leaderboard from a five-shot deficit on Wednesday, punching its ticket to the Championship Course at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., where the 2024 NCAA Championships will be held May 24-29.

The OU Senior marks his first individual title since The Goodwin in 2023 and breaks his previous collegiate low score of 66 by two strokes. Lorenz is coming off a memorable Junior season, earning PING All-America honorable mention, All-Big 12 Selection and Big 12 All-Tournament team honors.

The former Sunrise Mountain high school golfer achieved notable awards and achievements during his junior golf days. Awards and accolades include the 2019 Arizona Junior Golf Association Player of the Year, No. 1 ranked player in the state of Arizona in 2020 class, No. 16 ranked player in 2020 class nationally, 2019 Arizona State Champion and a member of Team Arizona’s Junior America’s Cup team. Lorenz captured 18 JGAA victories in 13 seasons, his most noteworthy win being the PGA Junior Qualifier back in 2018.

“Ben has always showcased an outstanding skillset from such a young age and seeing him prosper at OU is so rewarding for all of us at the JGAA, where he got his start in competitive golf,” said JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin. “We wish him the best as he looks to continue his hot streak at the NCAA Championship at La Costa. Let’s go Ben!”
