Current JGAA member and Oklahoma State University commit Asher Nelson captured his first AJGA title in dramatic fashion, outlasting Canada’s Chase Jerome in a one-hole playoff to win the AJGA Junior at Colgate presented by Montessori at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, New York.
Nelson, a Scottsdale native and member of the 2027 class, battled tough conditions all three days including rain, gusts up to 35 mph, and a 48-degree final round to post rounds of 69-69-70 for a 54-hole total of 8-under 208. The only player in the Boys division to shoot three sub-par rounds in the entire field.
Jerome matched him shot for shot at the same total, forcing the playoff after regulation. The head-to-head finish capped a tightly bunched leaderboard: Daniel Park finished third at 3-under, five strokes back, with a group of four players tied for fifth at 1-over. Nelson’s steady, mistake-free scoring never posting worse than a 70 across three rounds — proved the difference when it mattered most.
The win marks Nelson’s breakthrough AJGA title and adds to a strong run of success stories for JGAA members on the national junior circuit this summer. The JGAA congratulates Asher on the victory and looks forward to following his continued success this season and into his college career at Oklahoma State.
