By September 12, 2023No Comments

JGAA Alum and current ASU men’s golfer Preston Summerhays has played in a few PGA Tour events, including the 2022 WM Phoenix Open on a sponsor exemption. The Sun Devil captain will get another chance at this week’s Fortinet Championship at Silverado Resort and Spa-North Course in Napa, Cali.

Summerhays shot 5-under 211 (62-67-72) and then beat Max Herendee of Illinois in a playoff to win the 72-player Sahalee Players Championship, hosted by the University of Washington, in Sammamish, WA. The Sahalee Players Championship is the premier U.S. collegiate championship showcasing the top golfers in the country.

PRESTON THE PAST HALF SEVEN MONTHS

Summerhays went 2-1-1 in helping USA win another Walker Cup earlier this month, including a strong 4&3 win in his final match to help seal the deal for Team USA. The two-time All-American has now won two of his past five collegiate events, as he also captured the 2023 ASU/Thunderbird Intercollegiate in Phoenix last April. It marked his second career win, and his sixth top-five finish as he finished third at the 2023 Las Vegas NCAA Regional, tied for fourth at the 2023 Valspar invitational and the 2023 National Intercollegiate, and tied for fifth at the 2023 Cabo Collegiate.
