Vickers clears the field by four strokes; Su fires 3-under par in final round to win by three
PHOENIX – The JGAA Winter Classic Presented by OB Sports teed off at Palm Valley Golf Club and Wigwam Golf Club December 3-4. Hosted by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA), the field featured nearly 200 junior golfers – boys and girls – ages 8-18 competing in five age groups.
In the Boys Championship Division, Jackson Vickers of Phoenix went 5-under par cumulatively on the front nine in the 36-hole competition on his way to a comfortable four-stroke margin of victory (67-71—138) over Cam Sandland (72-70-142) of Phoenix and Blake Lorenz (71-71-142) of Peoria, who both finished T2 at 2-under par on Palm Valley Golf Club’s Palm Course. This marks Vickers’ first win in 11 starts this season.
In the Girls Championship Division, Scottsdale’s Kelly Su fired a tournament-low 69 (76-69—145, +1) in the final round to notch her second victory of the season, adding to her impressive streak of eight-straight top-5 finishes in as many starts. Ashley Menne of Surprise finished in second place, three strokes off the pace, with a 75-73—148 effort, and Alexandra Quihuis of Tucson placed third (75-74—149, +5).
Andrew Scroggins of Chandler won the Boys 15-18 Division at 3-over par (75-72—147). Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert won the Boys 13-14 Division at 1-over par (74-71—145) on Wigwam’s Heritage course. Andrew Larralde of Litchfield Park took top honors in the Boys 11-12 Division at 12-over par (67-69—136), and Ryan Sefrioui from Scottsdale won the Boys 10 and Under Division at 5-over par (33-34—67).
In the Girls 15-18 Division, Belle Balkan of Mesa won at 10-over par (77-77—154). Abbey Schutte of Goodyear won the Girls 13-14 Division at 6-over par (78-72—150). Banet Flores of Litchfield Park won the Girls 11-12 Division at 17-over par (72-69—141), and Kalyn Doss of Litchfield Park won in the Girls 10 and Under Division at 15-over par (41-36—77).
