Birdies two holes down the stretch for two-stroke victory.
Congratulations to longtime JGAA member Gracie McGovern, 16, who won her first AJGA tournament on March 20 at the AJGA Preview at Windsor held at Windsor Golf Club. Starting the final round six strokes back, the Scottsdale resident rebounded with a final round 1-under 71 – which included two key late-round birdies on 15 an 18 for the two-stroke victory at +3 for the tournament.
“This win means a lot to me because going into this tournament I wasn’t playing my best,” McGovern said. “I was a little unconfident coming in, but winning my first AJGA event here definitely gave me a confidence boost.”
In 2022 JGAA competition prior to the big AJGA win, McGovern posted fifth place and T10 finishes at two PING Junior Masters tournaments to go along with three wins in the 2021 season. One of those wins came at the PING Invitational, where McGovern fired a fantastic 67-65 to win by eight. In all, McGovern has entered 30 JGAA events and counting since becoming a member in 2016.
On the heels of her breakthrough AJGA win in Windsor, McGovern earned her way into the field at the upcoming PING Heather Farr Classic, held locally at Longbow April 14-17.
