Collin Keino & Jordin Cowing Win The Tucson City Junior Championship Sponsored By Tucson Conquistadores

The Tucson City Junior Championship, sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores, once again delivered high-level competition and inspiring performances May 28–29 at Randolph Golf Complex and Dell Urich Golf Course. With more than 135 players from across Arizona, the event remains one of Southern Arizona’s premier junior golf tournaments.

In the Boys Championship division at Randolph North, the leaderboard was tightly packed after round one, with multiple contenders in striking distance. Among them was Collin Keino of Tennessee, who made the most of his trip to Arizona. Tied for the lead heading into the final round, Keino surged ahead with a scorching 4-under 32 on the back nine, securing the title at 4-under par (68-68). Phoenix’s Mateo Berastegui mounted a strong late charge, firing a 5-under 67 on day two to tie for runner-up at 1-under, joined by Jaxon Pearsall (Vail), Parker Servoss (Tucson), and Catcher Dahm (Scottsdale).

In the Girls Championship division at Dell Urich, Jordin Cowing of Gilbert delivered a dominant performance from start to finish. Holding the lead throughout, Cowing sealed the win with a brilliant final-round 66, including five birdies, to finish 4-under and take the title by eight strokes. It marked her first victory of the season. Bianka Goerke of Benson claimed solo second at 4-over (76-68), and Tyla Greenwood of Tucson finished third at 6-over (71-75).

Other age division highlights included:

  • Boys 15–18: Caleb Troyer (Goodyear) edged the field with a 3-under final-round 69 to win at 1-over par.
  • Boys 13–14: Nolan Wilson (Litchfield Park) defended his title with a three-shot win at 2-under (66-72).
  • Boys 11–12: Zhenting Liu (Chandler) claimed a three-stroke victory at 2-over (35-37–72).
  • Boys 10 & Under: Emery Bingham (Glendale) finished even par to secure the win.

On the girls’ side:

  • Girls 15–18: Tori Colborne (Goodyear) went 77-73 to win at +10.
  • Girls 13–14: Abby Kelly (Mesa) captured her fourth title of the season with a 77-68 performance at +5.
  • Girls 11–12: Hadley Kester (Tucson) finished +9 (39-40) for the win.

 

The Michael J. Harris Core Values award is dedicated to the memory of Michael J. Harris. A longtime member of the Tucson Conquistadores, a Civic leader and philanthropist who was dedicated to the community, young people and embodied the aspiration that golf, like life, be enjoyed with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship. Catalina Foothills senior Oliver DeGuia earned the Tucson Conquistadors Michael J. Harris Core Values Award handed out on Thursday at the Randolph Golf Complex. The award was given at the completion of the Tucson City Junior Golf Championships ran by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona.

The award was established in the memory of Harris and is awarded to the player who demonstrates the qualities he lived by according to the Tucson Conquistadores in conjunction with the First Tee organization.

“Harris was a Conquistador for 33 years and he lived his life as he played golf, with honesty, loyalty, good sportsmanship, integrity, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance and courtesy.”
