Beck Sage Pulls it Off in Yuma at Bruce Brown Yuma City Junior Championship

By May 20, 2026No Comments

The JGAA headed south for the Bruce Brown Yuma City Junior Championship, contested May 16–17 at Desert Hills Golf Course in Yuma, Arizona. Summer tournament season is officially underway after a great weekend of play.

Beck Sage of Phoenix trailed by three strokes heading into the final round. He had every reason to settle, but he didn’t. Rising to the occasion when it mattered most, Sage minimized mistakes and kept his scorecard clean, finding a rhythm that sparked a serious run down the stretch. Calm and composed, he let the game come to him. As the saying goes – slow and steady wins the race. Two other players remained in contention for top honors, and no one was running away with this title. A back-nine barnburner raised the stakes and set the stage for a dramatic finish. In the end, it was Sage’s bogeyless scorecard that proved to be the difference, as he closed out the event at even par for his first victory of the 2026 campaign. The win builds on a season-best T7 finish at the Scottsdale Invitational — an encouraging sign for the Phoenix native, who appears to be hitting his stride heading into the remainder of the season.

In the Girls Championship division, Abby Kelly of Mesa went unchallenged, as she was the sole competitor in her age group.

Each year, the Desert Hills event brings together local golfers and the wider Arizona junior golf community. In recent years, the tournament has taken on deeper meaning following the passing of longtime Desert Hills General Manager Bruce Brown. His legacy lives on through the Bruce Brown Memorial Scholarship, a heartfelt initiative launched in partnership with his wife, Laura Brown, the JGAA, and the Yuma community. The scholarship honors Bruce’s memory by providing financial support to deserving JGAA student-athletes.
