The second PING Junior Masters Series event of the season teed off this past weekend at McCormick Ranch Golf Club with the second edition of the Scottsdale Charros Invitational. The coveted series attracts top-ranked boys and girls from across Arizona, along with a select group of elite juniors from out of state, all eager to test their skills against the state’s impressive local talent. The event continues to spotlight the next generation of highly skilled golfers, many of whom are destined for collegiate competition.

In the Boys Championship Division, the leaderboard was anything but lonely after the opening round, as three players walked into the clubhouse with sub-70 rounds to share the early lead. Owen Greenough of Chandler and Asher Nelson of Scottsdale started out making serious waves, each posting bogey-free front nines to set the tone early. Both had their sights set on gaining separation and claiming the top spot.

The final round delivered plenty of drama as the standings remained tightly contested down the line. Three additional players made late charges toward the lead following outstanding performances. Former Player of the Year Owen Bolles of Chandler went on an absolute heater in round two, carding four birdies and an eagle to post a 4-under 68 and put serious pressure on the leaders.

With the championship still undecided, the moment fell to Nelson to respond, and he did just that. Showing composure and confidence when it mattered most, Nelson sank several key putts and posted an even-par 72 to secure his first victory of the 2026 season. Bolles finished just one stroke back in second place at 3-under par. Evan Tyree of Scottsdale and Ryan Mosher of Canada tied for third at 2-under par.

The Girls Championship Division told a different story, as the leaderboard belonged to clear frontrunner Alyssa Rigby of Washington. Already turning heads on the Arizona junior golf circuit after her win at the Warren Schutte Invitational, Rigby picked up right where she left off. She opened with a 2-under round highlighted by five birdies and never relinquished control of the tournament.

Her one-shot lead quickly expanded during the final round, where she finished as the lone player in red figures. Rigby concluded the event at 1-under par, comfortably claiming top honors in the Girls Championship Division and securing back-to-back victories in the PING Junior Masters Series. Malone Wall of Scottsdale and Sol Choi of Nevada each tied for runner up at 2-over par.
