By July 9, 2026No Comments

The JGAA has long served as a launching pad for many of the state’s top golfers, and several former JGAA members are proving just that, shining on some of amateur golf’s biggest stages this summer.

From capturing prestigious state championships to earning spots in USGA national championships, JGAA alumni continue to represent the competitive spirit of Arizona golf with distinction.

Vakasiuola Captures Arizona Women’s Amateur Title

Former JGAA Player of the Year Alexis Vakasiuola added another impressive accomplishment to her growing résumé by winning the 2026 Arizona Women’s Amateur Championship, capturing one of the state’s most prestigious amateur titles.

After several close calls in recent years, Vakasiuola finally claimed the coveted Kachina trophy with poise and determination, cementing her place among Arizona’s elite amateur golfers.

The victory caps what’s been an outstanding freshman campaign for the Grand Canyon University standout, who quickly established herself as a key contributor for the Lopes during her first collegiate season. Vakasiuola is coming off a breakout season. She was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-Mountain West honors after finishing 11th at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. Furthermore, she also set GCU’s single-season scoring average record at 71.9. Her success is a testament to years of development through Arizona junior golf and reflects the bright future that lies ahead.

Helm, Wilczek Qualify for 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Mesa Country Club

Two more former JGAA members will represent Arizona on one of amateur golf’s biggest stages after Kaitlyn Helm and Taylor Wilczek both earned spots in the 2026 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship through qualifying. The 2026 Women’s Amateur is set to take place at The Honors Course in August.

Helm, who recently completed her freshman season at Washington State University, continues to build on an already impressive golf résumé following a decorated junior career in Arizona.

Wilczek, now competing collegiately at St. Mary’s University, also punched her ticket to the championship, adding another milestone to an accomplished amateur career that began through JGAA competition.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur annually features many of the world’s top amateur players, making qualification a significant achievement and another reminder of the high level of talent produced through Arizona junior golf.

A Legacy of Success

From junior tournaments across Arizona to collegiate competition, state amateur championships and USGA national events, JGAA alumni continue to demonstrate what’s possible through hard work, dedication and a passion for the game.

Congratulations to Alexis, Kaitlyn and Taylor on their incredible accomplishments. The entire JGAA family is proud to celebrate your continued success and looks forward to following your journeys in the years ahead.
