The JGAA celebrated the Class of 2025 in fitting fashion at the annual Thunderbird High School Senior Classic, held May 18 at Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale. The boys teed off on the Lakes nine, while the girls started on the Arroyo nine, playing the Arroyo-to-Lakes rotation for the 18-hole sendoff.

Sponsored by The Thunderbirds, proud hosts of the WM Phoenix Open, the event brought together 81 graduating seniors — 68 boys and 13 girls — for one final high school showdown and a chance to reflect on their junior golf journeys.

“The High School Senior Classic is our way of saying thank you to the seniors who’ve grown up in the JGAA family,” said Scott McNevin, JGAA Executive Director. “Many of these players have competed with us for years, and this tournament, made possible by The Thunderbirds, gives them a proper sendoff. It was a day to remember.”

In the Girls division, former Player of the Year Alexis Vakasiuola returns to the winner’s circle after a flawless performance. She carded a bogey-free, 6-under-par round with six birdies. Her impressive stretch of four-straight birdies on the Lakes nine sealed the victory by three strokes. Kaitlyn Helm of St. John Paul II High School finished solo-second at 3-under-par 69, and Jordin Cowing of Camille Castille High School secured third place at 1-over-par 73.

The Boys division featured a shootout with seven players in red figures. Jonathan Tso of Prescott High School turned it up a notch on the Arroyo nine. Trailing with four holes to play, Tso birdied the 15th and then delivered a clutch eagle on the par-5 18th to complete a thrilling 5-under-par 67, edging the field by one stroke. Nash Arthurs of Liberty High School came in hot with a 4-under 68 to finish runner-up, followed by Jackson Pieratt (Sunnyslope) in third at 2-under 70.
