Mahanth Chirravuri of Chandler edged out fellow Chandler resident Ryan Macpherson (69-67) with a par on the first playoff hole to take the Chandler City Junior Championship at 8-under-par 136 (67-69). Runner up last year, Chirravuri blitzed the back nine in the first round carding a 5-under-par 31. The win mark’s Chirravuri second of the season individually in addition to a historic Arizona team win at the 2018 Hogan Cup. Riley Lewis of Prescott came in third place, two strokes off the pace, at 6-under-par 138 (69-69).
In the Girls Championship Division, Maya Benita of Tucson broke into the winners’ circle for the first time this season after firing two rounds in the 60s (68-67) to win by eight strokes at 9-under-par 135. Benita’s stellar play on the front nine made the difference; she shot 4-under-par 32 both days including an eagle on the second hole in round one. Alyzzah Vakasiuola of San Tan Valley came in second place at 1-under-par 143 (72-71). Sneha Yadav of Scottsdale came in third place at even-par 144 (76-78).
Also contested at Whirlwind Golf Club, Anawin Pikulthong of Gilbert won the Boys 15-18 Division at 9-under par (66-69—135). Carlos Astiazaran of Tucson won in the Boys 13-14 Division at 2-under par (71-69—140) at Ocotillo Golf Club. On Bear Creek Golf Complex’s Cub Course, Ryan Hanawalt (61-63—124, +6) of Laveen won in the Boys 11-12 Division. And Chandler’s Maverick Midthun won in a playoff over Arjun Somani after firing 31-31—62, +4 to take the Boys 10 and under Division.
Joy Callinan of Makawao, Hawaii won in the Girls 15-18 Division posting a 14-over-par 158 (81-77) at Whirlwind Golf Club. Samantha Olson of Phoenix won the Girls 13-14 Division at 4-over par (73-73—146) at Ocotillo. At Bear Creek Golf Complex’s Cub Course, Katherine Hauptman of Peoria won the Girls 11-12 Division at 12-over par (65-65—130). Alexis Lamadrid of Phoenix won the Girls 10 and Under Division at 6-over par (31-33—64).
