Chandler resident Ethan Adam and Kelly Su of Scottsdale posted victories in the Boys and Girls Championship Divisions respectively at the 15th annual Antigua Milt Coggins Stroke Play held June 6-8 at Grand Canyon University Golf Course.
Adams, who finished at 6-under par (70-66-68—204), fought off a hard-charging J. Cabot Fowler who fired a tournament-low 63 in the final round that included nine birdies and two bogies. In the end, he fell one stroke short in the 54-hole competition at 5-under par (72-70-63—205). Damon Vilkauskas of Mesa and Aaron Ramos of Goodyear finished T3, two strokes off the pace.
Kelly Su of Scottsdale lapped the field in a wire-to-wire victory at 6-under par (71-68-71—210). Katelyn Allen of Albuquerque finished in second place with a 7-over-par 223 final score. Kyla Wilde of Phoenix came in third at 10-over par.
“Congratulations to Ethan and Kelly,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “This make two in a row for Kelly, and a solid first win of the season for Ethan.”
In addition to the Championship Divisions, Tanner Van Newkirk of Phoenix won the Boys 15-18 Division at even par 68-70-72—210; Johnnie Clark of Mesa won the Boys 13-14 Division at 13-under par (67-65-68—200); Nicklas Nuez of Laveen won the Boys 11-12 Division at even par (35-36-37—108); and Ajay Morris of Avondale (38-31-37—106) win in the Boys 10 and Under Division at 2-under par.
On the Girls side, Brooke Beyer of Mesa won the Girls 15-18 Division (78-79-72—229); Mattison Frick of Peoria won the Girls 13-14 Division (67-71-75—213); and Kalyn Doss of Litchfield Park took the Girls 11-12 Division (45-38-41—124); and Anya Mathur of Scottsdale won the 10 and Under Division (42-41-38—121).
