The 57th annual Eddie Hogan Cup teed off August 16–17 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Oregon, and Team Arizona left with some hardware after securing a 3rd-place finish at 5-under par.
Arizona’s steady play across two days put them on the podium in one of junior golf’s most storied invitationals, which annually showcases the best players from Western states and Canada. Leading the charge was Evan Tyree, who carded rounds of 67-71 for a 4-under total of 138, earning a share of 3rd place individually. Right behind was Chandler’s Ethan Butters at even par for a Top-10 finish, Scottsdale’s Connor Bringhurst at 1-over (T13), and Mesa’s Jake Goyen inside the Top 25 at 4-over.
The Hogan Cup, first played in 1969, is a 36-hole team event where the three lowest scores from each squad count toward the team total. Medals are awarded to the top three teams and individuals, a distinction that places Arizona among elite company.
Widely regarded as a proving ground for future stars, the Hogan Cup has hosted an impressive list of alumni including Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Peter Jacobsen, and Kirk Triplett. Being selected to represent one’s state is considered an honor in itself, and Team Arizona’s podium finish further solidifies its standing among the strongest junior golf programs in the West.
