Mahanth Chirravuri, 13, of Chandler, took first place in the Boy Championship Division at the Thompson Invitational with the help of a final-round 68, the lowest round of the tournament, to end up at 4-under-par 140 for the championship. Tucson’s Jacob Goode finished in second place (71-71—143), three strokes off the pace, and Caden Christopherson of Chandler took third place at even par (71-73—144).
Chirravuri has been working his way to the winner’s circle with a third-place finish in late August followed by a recent second-place finish in early September. He has posted two other wins this season, and in March Chirravuri placed second in the AM&E Classic hosted by Bryce Molder, a prestigious Junior Masters Series tournament.
Toni St John of Gilbert posted two 73s to finish in first place at two-over par for the championship, one stroke ahead of Goodyear’s Kendall Todd 73-74—147, and two strokes ahead of Tucson’s Alexandra Quihuis (73-75—148). This marks St John’s third win of the season, including a Junior Masters Series tournament, to go along with 15 top-10 finishes in 17 events played.
“Congratulations to Mahanth and Toni. They came out on top of a very competitive field,” said Scott McNevin, Executive Director of the JGAA. “Once again, we truly appreciate effort of Michael Thompson, Oro Valley Country Club and all the others who make this one of the best events on our schedule. It’s always a pleasure to host this event in the Tucson area.”
