Chandler’s Mahanth Chirravuri earned medalist honors at the USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier held June 7 at Arizona Country Club. He will join four other JGAA qualifiers – Rio Newcombe, Rylan Johnson, Gavin Aurilia and Cade Anderson – at the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur set for July 19-24 at The Country Club of North Carolina, Village of Pinehurst.

Chirravuri shot 3-under 69, starting out birdie-bogey in the first two holes before picking up three more birdies for the one-stroke win over Newcombe, Johnson and Aurilia, who all finished tied for second place at 2-under 70. A Rutgers-bound Anderson qualified earlier, June 3, after a second place, 2-under-par 70 performance at The Club at Rock Creek in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Newcombe, bound for University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, went birdie-double bogey-birdie on the first three holes, then settled into a long string of pars along with two birdies that pushed him into red numbers. Johnson stopped a three-bogey slide with a birdie at the 8th hole, regained level-par after a birdie on the 12th hole, and dug deep for two more birdies to qualify. And Aurilia, set to play for the USC Trojans this fall, climbed to 4-under par after only eight holes before giving two strokes back on the inward nine.
